Medical Consultation

Medical consultation occurs by referral from community or hospital-based physicians from local or university (tertiary) centres.  Follow-up after the initial referral is determined based on the specific problem.
If we have seen your child before, new problems require a new referral.

Why?  Without a referral, we do not know if your regular physician needs our consultation, or what diagnostic and treatment steps have been taken already.

If we have not seen or heard from you within 6 months of the initial problem, new concerns about that problem will require a new referral.

Why?  A lot of growth and development takes place in 6 months in infants, children and teens, so cause and treatment of problems may change significantly after 6 months.  Your regular physician may only require our consultation for a problem based on the age of the patient.
